Frequently Asked Questions

What are GLP-1 medications?

GLP-1 medications are prescription treatments that help regulate appetite, improve insulin sensitivity, and support weight loss. These medications work by helping the body feel fuller for longer and by improving how the body processes blood sugar.

At Ellicott City Women’s Health, GLP-1 medications are prescribed and monitored by medical providers to ensure safe and effective treatment.

Who is a good candidate for GLP-1 weight management?

GLP-1 medications may be appropriate for individuals who:

• Have a BMI of 27 or higher with weight-related health concerns
• Have a BMI of 30 or higher
• Struggle with weight despite healthy diet and exercise
• Experience insulin resistance or metabolic challenges

A medical evaluation is required to determine whether this treatment is appropriate for you.

How is your program different from online GLP-1 programs?

Many online programs simply prescribe medication without evaluating the underlying causes of weight gain.

At Ellicott City Women’s Health, we provide:

• In-person medical evaluations
• Hormone and metabolic testing when appropriate
• Personalized treatment plans
• Ongoing medical supervision
• A comprehensive wellness approach

Our goal is to support long-term health, not just short-term weight loss.

What is Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT)?

Bioidentical hormone therapy uses hormones that are structurally similar to those naturally produced by the body.

BHRT may help address symptoms related to hormonal imbalance such as:

• Fatigue
• Brain fog
• Hot flashes
• Mood changes
• Low libido
• Sleep disturbances

Treatment plans are personalized based on symptoms, medical history, and laboratory evaluation.

What symptoms might indicate hormone imbalance?

Hormonal changes can affect many aspects of health. Common symptoms include:

• Persistent fatigue
• Weight gain or difficulty losing weight
• Brain fog or trouble concentrating
• Mood swings or anxiety
• Poor sleep
• Low libido
• Irregular menstrual cycles
• Hot flashes or night sweats

A comprehensive evaluation can help determine whether hormonal changes may be contributing to these symptoms.

How long does it take to see results?

Many patients begin noticing improvements in energy, appetite regulation, and overall well-being within the first few weeks of treatment. Weight loss results and hormone balance improvements can vary depending on individual health factors and treatment plans.

Our team monitors your progress and adjusts treatment as needed to support the best possible outcomes.

Do you provide documentation for insurance reimbursement?

We provide a “Superbill with ICD-10 and CPT codes” and a “Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN)” for qualified medical expenses.

Do you accept insurance for these services?

Insurance coverage may vary depending on the specific service and treatment plan. Our team will review your options and discuss available payment and membership programs when appropriate.

How do I get started?

The first step is scheduling a consultation with our medical team. During your visit, we will review your health history, symptoms, and goals to determine the most appropriate treatment plan for you.

What is a Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN)?

A Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN) is a formal document provided by our medical staff that outlines why a specific treatment is essential for your health. This is often required by HSA/FSA administrators to prove that the service is a Qualified Medical Expense.

Will my insurance reimburse me?

While we do not bill insurance companies directly, we provide you with a Superbill. This document contains the necessary clinical coding (ICD-10 and CPT) that you can submit to your insurance provider or plan administrator for potential reimbursement or to justify the use of your health tax funds.

Is every service eligible?

Not all services are guaranteed to be eligible. Eligibility depends on your clinical diagnosis and your specific plan’s rules. We recommend confirming eligibility with your plan administrator prior to your appointment.
